COL. WILLIAM M. “BILL” CONNOR, V

Col. (Ret.) Bill Connor – a career U.S. Army Infantry officer, attorney, and founding partner of NATIONAL DEFENSE CONSULTANTS, LLC – is a graduate of The Citadel (today serving on The Citadel’s prestigious Board of Visitors), the University of South Carolina School of Law, and a distinguished graduate of the Army War College. Connor is a decorated combat Infantry officer (Airborne and Ranger qualified) who has logged multiple deployments to the Middle East, and he has commanded both light Infantry and Ranger training companies. Following 10-plus years of active duty, Connor entered the Reserve component, and from 2007 through 2008 deployed to Afghanistan where he became the senior U.S. military adviser in Helmand Province. He later directed the Command and General Staff Officer Course for S.C. He became Army North’s senior representative (emergency preparedness liaison officer) for S.C. And he was appointed chair of the National Security Task Force, S.C. Floodwater Commission. In 2010, Connor was the GOP runoff candidate for Lt. Governor of South Carolina. Connor has provided military analysis to the London-based Daily Mail and the BBC among many others. Since the beginning of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war, he has provided expert analysis on NEWSMAX. Among his awards, honors, and military decorations, he is a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest award.

COL. W. THOMAS SMITH, JR.

Col. (Ret.) W. Thomas Smith Jr., S.C. Military Department (SCMD), is a former U.S. Marine Infantry leader (parachutist, close-combat instructor, and counterterrorism instructor), and he is a founding partner of NATIONAL DEFENSE CONSULTANTS, LLC. Deploying around the world primarily Okinawa, Korea, and elsewhere in the western Pacific as a Marine rifle squad (Infantry) leader, Smith also served briefly with Marine Corps Intelligence. He later served on a SWAT team in the nuclear industry and was twice-named “HONORMAN” during tactical-qualification training evolutions. Commissioned into the SCMD, Smith established and directed the department’s first Counterterrorism Advisory Team. As a civilian war correspondent, Smith traveled to Croatia, Bosnia, the Middle East, and twice to Iraq during the war. Today, he’s a senior officer with the National Security Task Force, S.C. Floodwater Commission; a professional writer, a special deputy with the Richland County (S.C.) Sheriff’s Department, and a New York Times bestselling editor. Smith has served as military technical consultant for films airing on the MILITARY CHANNEL and a counter-piracy analyst for E! Entertainment and FOX News. In the wake of the Oct. 2023 Hamas attacks in Israel, Smith has provided expert analysis on NEWSMAX. Among his awards, honors, and military decorations, Smith is a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest award.
